The artist reflects on how art survives in the era of algorithms and short‑form thinking. Video documentation of processes, created specifically for social media formats, mimics the hypnotic content of an endless feed. But behind this mimicry lies a challenge — painting defies neural networks, which are incapable of replicating the physical process of decay that occurs in the artist's canvases. Potapov's art is not an object but an event. Melting, like a glitch effect, transforms the canvas into a living organism.
The artist's subjects are diverse: they include combinations of alpine views with Soviet panel buildings, absurdist motifs such as Dutch cheese and Lyubertsy gangsters, a Gazprom gas tower turning into a candle by Gerhard Richter, a portrait of the slain Theo van Gogh (great‑grandson of Vincent van Gogh) transforming into his monument, and even the rise of the Chinese yuan in a Siberian forest.
