Rome in winter

Vladimir Shinkarev December 07, 2022 - January 18, 2023 pop/off/art, Moscow

About project

pop/off/art gallery presents a personal exhibition "Rome in Winter" by Vladimir Shinkarev, a well-known St. Petersburg artist and one of the founders of the Mitki group. The painting series, which currently includes more than forty works, was started back in 2009 during a long internship in Italy. The artist received this opportunity thanks to a scholarship from the Joseph Brodsky Memorial

Foundation, which continued the academic tradition of awarding the best masters. The artistic Shinkarev’s method - to highlight the main thing and form it into a concise statement, causes a long-term interest in the topic. He returns to Roman motifs for a long time, creating new pictorial variations of his compositions. Shinkarev leads us around the city, offering a glimpse into non-trivial nooks and crannies with unexpected angles, as well as more popular places with views of the Tiber and the Forum. By choosing the most monochrome season of the year, he levels out the difference between Rome and St. Petersburg, viewing the Eternal City through the prism of the color of the northern capital. The exposition of the exhibition will present new works made over the past few years, along with earlier ones, which will allow the viewer not only to feel the atmosphere of the city, but also to trace the artistic process.
