pop/off/art gallery presents the project of the Russian young artist Michael Levius «Beware!». In the new painting and graphics, created especially for the exhibition, Levius continues to improve his recognizable artistic language and skillfully imitates the collage technique, achieving the effect of complexity and mosaic of visual images. Project Beware! will be the artist's first solo exhibition in a pop/off/art gallery.
The name of the exhibition was Yanka Diaghileva's song «Beware!», while «Beware» is also the name of one of the works presented in the exhibition. Reflection on a world on the brink of disaster, a mass feeling of grief, despair and loss – the main leitmotif of a new series of large-scale, but subtle in color and technique, works. Levius' painting refers to a rich complex of images borrowed from manga and American horror films. His pictorial technique is the construction of original "games" for the imagination. The density of the composition, the level of sample of objects, the abundance of characters and architecture pushes the viewer to complete the plot, to think it over in time. The new works of the artist are based on the contradiction of statics and dynamics, close-ups and long-range plans, realistic and abstract images. The dynamics of these visual streams captures a person in adaptation to the unknown at a time when the usual footing is destroyed and reference points are lost.
