VLADIMIR SALNIKOV «Restoration of Landscape» Painting 3 – 29 September 2007 ![]() |
|
The new season of works of the pop/off/art Gallery starts with the solo exhibition of Vladimir Salnikov (b. 1948) – one of the leading topical Moscow artists of the older generation, well-know theoretician and critic, participant of numerous international projects and museum expositions. Within the framework of the latest project “Restoration of Landscape” Salnikov created approximately 15 canvases – unusual reflections in relation to the landscape genre and its place in the sphere of Modern Art. Collected here are, at first glance, extremely different landscapes (and sometimes not landscapes at all) of very dissimilar places – palace parks in Poland, views of contemporary Moscow and even Indian beaches. The aim of the exhibition is the attempt to critically interpret and bring together in a single picture the contradictory images of today’s world through the prism of landscape, one of the most classical, refined and connected in essence with the visual issues of the genres of Art – and in this way facilitate the renewal and “restoration” of this genre.
