ALEXANDER SIGUTIN

«Supremuses’ Life»

January 22 – February 10

Alexander Sigutins’ “Supremuses’ Life” exhibition in pop/off/art gallery applies to relevant issues of non-figurative as well as figurative art, to the problem of pictorial plasticity origins. Sigutin is a representative of Southern-Russian trend in contemporary Russian art, who, in the early 90-s, together with Valery Koshlyakov, Yury Shabelnikov, Vladimir Anzelm, and others started to renew contemporary art vocabulary. Sigutin focuses on interaction of different codes: in his other exhibitions he showed connection between childish scribbles, modern furniture, and super abstraction.
“Supremuses’ Life” project adverts to avant-garde heritage in its’ new sense, it recognizes ties between Russian artistic revolution of the beginning of the century and ancient-Russian culture, between geometric art and icons. The artist of the 21st century considers it important to discover common roots in different periods of national art.
